Prof. M. Cherif Bassiouni, DePaul University

EVENT HIGHLIGHTS

Prof. M. Cherif Bassiouni speaks about the recent Egyptian protests against the government. Egypt is split between the haves and have-nots.
Millions of people are poor, and only a couple hundred families control most of Egypt’s wealth. President Mubarak and the Egyptian elite use the police to intimidate other Egyptians while the military refuses to get involved.

Egyptians are tired of Mubarak’s abuse, and they are showing their discontent on the streets of Cairo. Dr. Bassiouni is not optimistic about democratic reforms occurring in the government, but he states real change is possible.
