Turkoman Folk Music Ensemble
March 28-31, 2005

With the support of the Turkmen Golden Age Student Association, Turkmen folk musicians and dancers from Turkmenistan brought the sights, sounds, and rhythms of Central Asia to the doorstep of Chicago. It was a rare and treasured experience for the many Chicagoans who attended. Turkoman Folk Music Ensemble held their unique performances at Rockefeller Memorial Chapel, Chicago Cultural Center, Loyola University and Western Illionis University at Macomb

The Global Ethics Conference
April 13, 14, 2005

Theme:
The Search for Common Ground

Place:
University of Chicago - Rockefeller Memorial Chapel

Mission:

Our new millennium witnesses a rising demand to determine shared standards for justice and human rights, and to find solutions to global problems that can be embraced across a range of nations and cultures. Achieving global consensus at a level beyond simple relativism will require bringing to light shared values and principles that could serve as the basis for collective efforts toward peace and development, as well as for peaceful and productive interaction among nations and societies. We address this issue at a time when some propose that major civilizational traditions can never achieve cooperation, and when distinctions of right and left, liberal and conservative, seem to be widening.

Leading speakers will address, from a myriad of perspectives, the question of the existence of a shared, Global Ethic.

The 2nd Friendship & Intercultural Tours to Turkey
May, June, July, August - 2005 123

Niagara Foundation organizes dialogue trips to Turkey as yet another means of building bridges and strengthening friendships between the Muslim world and the West. Though hailing from different religious backgrounds, we find common ground through our travels in which we share the same dining table. Chicagoans are presented with the opportunity to network with new, and God willing, lifelong friends as a way of strengthening even further our commitment to a global ethic of dialogue and mutual understanding.

Testimonials from the trip:

By providing opportunities for worship, prayer, meditation, personal encounters and by advocating for peace and social justice by rejoicing in the generosity of God who has lavished rich and diverse gifts upon all Gods creatures developing individuals from both sides who will be open and receptive to each other who will come to appreciate what we have in common."
